This project didn't cost me a penny to do. Can't complain about that!
Supplies:
*Cardboard
*X-Acto Knife
*Old Book
*Elmers Glue
*Tape
Take your cardboard and trace out the shape of letter you wish to have. I drew out my own on paper but I'm sure it would be very easy to print off a letter from a word document. You will need two identical pieces for each letter. One for the back and one for the front.
Take the leftover cardboard and cut out strips to bring the two pieces for each letter together. After you have it all cut out you can start to tape it all together. When it is all together it will look like this.
Now you are ready to start with the paper mache. Take your glue and mix with water. 1 part water to 3 parts glue. Using pages from your book rip them into strips, dip in your paper mache mixture then smooth on your letter.
When it is completely covered and you are satisfied all you need do is wait for it to dry :)

Star Spangled Banner Painting
I wanted very much to have some more 4th of July decorations around our place. So I went digging around in the closet and found this painting I did back in high school.
Supplies:
*Ruler
*Paint
*Painters Tape
*Sponge Brush
Not wanting to paint over this image I decided to use the back side of it.

The Story of Us
Mr. "Creole" and I met when we both ended up on the same wild fire crew in the summer of 2007. I was a small town dreamer from the mountains and he was the Cajun raised city boy from the coast. Have to say nothing will help you get to know someone quicker than learning to rely on each other during a raging thousand acre forest fire. We quickly became friends and two years later were married.
Mr. "Creole" is a recent convert to the law enforcement with a background in Emergency Medical Services and structural fire fighting. He has been working in law enforcement now for just under a year and is loving it. He's my superman.
I, a.k.a. Mrs. "Creole", have a degree in Social Work and worked in teen suicide prevention before we moved for Mr. Creoles most recent work opportunity. I have not been able to find work here so I have been transitioning into a home making rockstar. I have been working to revive my love of crafting and cooking as a way to pass time and fulfill my desire to thrive. I always do my best to revive what others think is crap and make it my own.
Cocoa Bean "Creole" is the most recent addition to our little family. She was last years early Christmas present from the hubster when he was at the academy thousands of miles away. She will be one year old next month and is the most adorable brindle pug I have ever laid eyes on.
We are coming up on our second anniversary in a month and haven't been happier. I remember people telling me that the first two years of marriage are the hardest but it wasn't hard for us at all. Sure we've had some hard circumstances. We have moved 3 times in the past 18 months. Endured thousands of miles of separation during months of law enforcement academy. Adopted a puppy. And moved cross country away from anyone and everyone we have ever known. We have had quite an adventure so far and look forward to many more. We always focus on remaining positive because we may not have it all together but together we have it all.

Faux Iron Wall Art
So this is what I have been working on... on and off for a couple months now. I love the way cast iron art looks. Rustic but sophisticated at the same time.
Supplies needed:
*Toilet Paper & Paper Towel Rolls (I used between 15 and 20)
*Hot Glue Gun
*Paintbrush (for wrapping the end of the cardboard strips around)
*Scissors
*Ruler
*Paint of Choice
*Magazine
The most time consuming part was the collection of the toilet paper rolls.
For the frame I used magazine pages rolled up very tightly. I then took my X-acto knife and cut the end at a 45 degree angle so when glued together it would be in a square form. I'm sure that using a dowel from a craft store would work just as well or better.
When that is all done and you have your frame you can begin cutting the rolls into strips. I used strips that were 1centimeter in width but depending on your frame you could make them thicker or thinner. Wrap the ends of the strips around the end of your paintbrush to create the tightness of curl you desire, set in place within your frame and secure with the hot glue. When you are satisfied with your frame and the glue is dry you are ready to paint!
Shower Curtain Make Over
I have been wanting to do this craft for a while and finally got to it a few weeks ago. I bought a plain brown curtain and hung it up just so I could see how boring it would be. Yuck.
Then I got out my wax paper and traced the pattern I chose using a stencil. Afterwards, I cut them out using my x-acto knife. Before I laid the pattern all out on the shower curtain I taped the four corners to the floor. Then used the clothes iron to secure the freezer paper to the curtain so it won't move around as I paint.
This is the end result of the shower curtain. I am quite happy with the way it turned out and is just my style.

I can dream can't I?
As I continue my crafting & decorating I am quickly beginning to realize that I have all of these things I need... want NEED in order to do all the neat-o ideas I have :) Today I realized that not only do I want these things but I promptly forget what it is I want when I have to opportunity to get anything so I am going to document it. This way I will have a list to go back to. These are pretty much in random order... just cuz I'm random like that lol
1. Quilling Tools
This is a hobby I have recently discovered and I love doing it! These will allow me to wrap paper tightly into even circles and other shapes. I did a project recently (post pending) where I had to roll A LOT of toilet paper rolls around the end of a paint brush. Sure it worked but I wasn't able to get the paper to roll as tight as I would have liked.
2. I have been wanting a set up like this for a long time now. The big cutting board, the rotary fabric cutter and the huge see through ruler thing ha ha. The only difference is I want a rolling cutter for fabric and a separate one for cutting paper. I'm sure I could use the same one for both mediums though.
3. Fabric
Some of you already know about the lack of fabric here in Laredo. There is no where I can go to get fabric here. Mr. Creole and I are hoping to go to Corpus Christi soon (yay for the beach!!) so maybe I will be able to find some on sale. I especially LOVE the damask patterns.
4. Silhouette or Circut Machine
This would make it so I could do so many things craft-wise and gift-wise. As well as with decorating. I have seen so many amazing ideas.
5. Craft Room
I figured that while I was putting all my wishes in documented form I might as well say I love this craft room and I want one!!
